FUERTEVENTURA FISHING
Fuerteventura is a wonderful place to fish, with lots of different opportunities awaiting you. You can fish from local harbour piers (some are restricted), straight off the beach or rocks, or of course invest in a day's deep-sea fishing available in all the resort areas, to try to catch something really special!

If you are an experienced angler or just someone who likes to mess about with a cheap rod and line with the kids, Fuerteventura is a fisherman’s paradise. With little or no knowledge you can arm yourself with a basic rod and line for under 20 euros from one of the local fishing tackle stockists.
Add some raw prawn, tiny crabs, bread or just about anything edible and you will soon get bites from something that swims around the coast of this beautiful island. You could also try spinning for small tuna, I have personally hooked a Barracuda that was only a few metres from the shore using nothing more than a Pike lure.
Depending on bait and tackle set-up, you can expect to catch a variety of different fish, and that’s just from sitting on a jetty, from the rocks or sandy beaches. Some surprisingly big fish can be caught without a boat in sight, as long as you have the correct “rig”.
If you prefer to go Deep Sea Fishing, book a place on one of the local charter boats and head off further out to sea. All equipment and tuition is supplied, and they normally include refreshments and food. Trips last between 4 & 6 hours, so an early morning one leaving at 8.00am, returns around 1.30pm, giving you plenty time for a cold beer and some sun in the afternoon to recover from your big catch!
You can expect to catch a variety of fish while bottom fishing or trolling, around Lobos Island, along the coast of Fuerteventura, or towards Lanzarote. Depending on the time of year you could hook a Tuna, Wahoo, Barracuda, Marlin, Bream, Stingray or even a Hammerhead Shark.
So why not pass some of your time here seeing what you can catch? All the beaches and rocky coasts are easily accessible, but be careful when navigating the rocks as they can be slippery at times. Please be sure to take your litter away, and don’t leave any tackle behind.
Happy fishing…
