LAS PLAYITAS
HIRE A CAR and visit one of the Fuerteventura’s most picturesque fishing villages - Las Playitas.
Drive towards Gran Tarajal on the east coast of Fuerteventura then head off towards Las Playitas just a short distance away. This lovely village is one of the last remaining typically Spanish villages which still continues in the old ways and is tucked in a horseshoe bay with sand which is almost black in colour.
This is a great area for fishing and you will find many different species here and along the coastline of Gran Tarajal.
There are a couple of bars, restaurants and shops, in Las Playitas, but little else. The white-painted houses climb the terraces of the rocky headland, each with its individual view of this peaceful and tranquil area.
You will still find the older Spanish men sitting on benches discussing many topics and putting the world to rights, while they watch the children splashing each other in the crystal clear waters of the sea.
Local fishing boats bob gently on their moorings, sheltered by the rocky coves surrounding them, while a village cat stretches lazily between pots of pelargoniums on a set of flagstone steps..... Time continues, but in a much more relaxed and peaceful manner.
When you are hungry, visit La Rampa del Tio Enrique for meals, tapas, drinks and coffee - right on the promenade with views out to sea.
The recent addition of the resort complex Playitas Grand Resort brings much needed business to the local economy, and offers two different HOTELS, as well as VILLAS to accommodate both individuals and families, and groups large and small who wish to take part in their excellent sporting facilities.
They have a Golf Academy with a team of PGA professionals, using the new 9 hole GOLF COURSE, and an18 hole course under construction and due for completion in summer 2009.
Make use of the TENNIS court, or the HEATED 50m OLYMPIC POOl with eight lanes which is OPEN TO NON-RESIDENTS. Plans for further expansion in 2009, include a natural grass Football Pitch, and a Spa facility with treatments using natural volcanic sand and aloe vera produced on the island.
Leaving Las Playitas, take the right turn at the Playitas “boat” then drive up the steep road to MIRADOR FARO DE LA ENTALLADA - a working lighthouse high in the hills with great views and a truly wild and windy feel !
