LANZAROTE - WHICH RESORT area is right for you?
Lanzarote is just 65km long x 25km at its widest point and within this area there are 3 popular resort areas - Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise. There are smaller up and coming areas, but we will concentrate on the above.
All the resorts are very different, with each catering slightly differently to the needs of tourists. It is therefore important for you to decide which one will best suit you/your group's accommodation and activity needs.
The resort areas are on the Eastern and Southern sides of the island. There are a couple of tourist areas on the western side, but there are mainly for water sports experts as the seas are more challenging, and there is no other outside entertainment.

COSTA TEGUISENorth of the airport and about 14km / 20min drive from the airport
POPULARITY: Costa Teguise is popular with all nationalities. Some visitors love it, returning year after year. Others prefer to try other resorts as they say Costa Teguise is looking a bit tired and in need of a facelift. ACCOMMODATION: Good choice of different styles & prices of accommodation to suit all budgets ACTIVITIES: Fair choice of different sports and leisure activities for all the family. Good for windsurfing SHOPPING: Fair choice of smaller specialist local shops FOOD AND DRINK: Fair choice of International restaurants and bars. Most restaurants open until 0:00. NIGHTLIFE: A variety of entertainment available, from Karaoke & Quizzes to live music |
PUERTO del CARMENSouth of the airport and about 11km / 10min drive from the airport Puerto del Carmen is the MOST POPULAR resort, appealing to all nationalities wishing a resort with a "buzz" POPULARITY: Popular with all nationalities, and all age groups, but principally those looking for a good nightlife. Town beaches are safe, and great for kids. ACCOMMODATION: Excellent choice of different styles & prices of accommodation to suit all budgets ACTIVITIES: Excellent choice of different sports and leisure activities for all the family. Ironman sports challenge takes place in May every year. SHOPPING: Excellent choice of International and smaller specialist local shops. Home to Biosphera shopping mall FOOD AND DRINK: Excellent choice of International restaurants and bars. Most restaurants open until 0:00 but some serving food until 02:00 NIGHTLIFE: Many Bars/Restaurants with a variety of entertainment available, from Karaoke & Quizzes to Live Music. Home to Lanzarote's only Casino. Carnival takes place in Feb each year. |
